Basal body temperature charting can determine if and when you ovulate,  the days you are most likely to conceive and help as an objective measure to indicate improvements following acupuncture treatments.  www.fertilityfriend.com has an online service that will  teach you how to chart, provide an easy to use online chart and has many examples of normal and abnormal chart patterns.  You can also learn how to test cervical mucus.  The site gives a good description of the quality of fertile and non fertile mucus.

Infertility is increasing.  According to the US National Center For Health Statistics in its periodic National Survey of Family Growth, in 2002 about 7.3 million women reported infertility problems compared with 6.1 million in 1995 and 4.9 million in 1988. Male infertility is also on the rise as indicated by the World Health Organization (WHO). They have decreased the normal sperm count range because of the widespread decrease in sperm counts. The average sperm count dropped 45% from 113 million per ml. in 1940 to 66 million per ml. in 1990. Sperm volume declined as well, effectively reducing total average numbers of sperm per ml. to approximately half of what is was 50 years ago. Normal volume is now considered to be greater than 20 million per ml.  The number of men with low sperm counts has tripled from 6% to 18%. Increases in infertility were thought to be largely because couples are waiting to have children until they are older, but the Survey of Family Growth also suggests a rise in biological infertility that is supported by a growing body of information compiled by Stanford University womenshealth.stanford.edu/environment/fertility.html and by the Collaborative on Health and the Environment at
